About Under Construction Educational Network:UCEN

Oasis Charter Public School is governed by a board that is part of a non-profit organization called Under Construction Education Network.

The UCEN Board is compromised of five community members who come from diversified professions, backgrounds, and experiences.

The Board works collaboratively with the Executive Director to ensure that policies, regulations, and internal procedures are established to provide a safe and healthy school environment for a quality education for all students.

Regular Board meetings are scheduled for once per month and usually on the last Tuesday of the month, generally in the early evening and are generally conducted at the school site.

Persons interested in becoming an applicant for a Board position should review the application process (shown below). It is suggested that applicants review Board Policy Section I Article V Board Member Operations, Board Policy Section I Article VI Role of the Board, and Board Bylaws. Jacqueline Vasquez

President

Jacqueline Vasquez is a current parent of 2 Oasis students and has been part of the Oasis community for 7 years. Jacqueline is originally from Watsonville, but has resided in Salinas for many years. She has extensive admin experience from Reiter Berry Farms and currently works at Sundance Berry Farms. Jacqueline is an advocate for our students and community members in need.

Margie Wiebusch

Margie Wiebusch was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Attended Staten Island Community College, Brooklyn College and received a Business Degree from Drake Business School in New York, New York. Margie moved to California in 1990 and started working at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital in the Surgery Department and the Quality Management Department. For the last 20 years she has worked at Hartnell College and is currently the Director of Academic Affairs/Foster and Kinship Care Education/Independent Living Program. She has served on a number of non profit boards including the Monterey County Foster Parent Association and the City of Salinas Parks and Recreation Committee. She has adopted 4 children and has been a foster parent for the past 11 years. She currently has a teen in her care and will continue to provide care for children in the foster care system. She currently resides in Salinas and has since moving here in 1990, two of her children attend Oasis Charter School and it will continue to be her school of choice in the future.

Dr. Fernando Elizondo

Steve Duran Jr has 4 children ages 17,16,12, and 11 . He loves to coach youth sports in his community basketball and football . He attends Celebration Church where he and his sons volunteer on Saturdays and gives free haircuts to the children in East Salinas and his children pass out food to families in need. Over the last 25 years he has devoted his time advocating and working with foster families and foster youth all over California. He’s currently the Little League President for Continental league he’s also been the president for Laurelwood School Parent-Teacher Club for the last five years and has served as a chairman for School Site Council at Everett Alvarez high school for the past two years.

Maria Alvarez

Maria Alvarez has been an educator for over 28 years. She believes that the social-emotional well being of adults and students is essential. In order to impact students, Maria leads from the heart and works towards one collective purpose as a team. She believes it is important to lead with Appreciative Inquiry which will inspire passion, hope, and reliance in all the systems one works with. Maria is excited about her journey to further her studies at Brandman University and looks forward to her Transformation as a Leader.
