Home of the Leopard Sharks!

Oasis Charter Public School was founded in 2001 as a tuition-free school that serves children grades Kindergarten through 6th grade. Oasis is a constructivist, project-based school, and our curriculum is guided by the California State Curriculum Standards. Our focus is on each student’s educational development over time. We feature small classes and provide academic experiences for students in math, English-language arts, social studies, science,  physical education, and the arts Oasis is an active community of 175 students that invites participation from each student and their family. We provide students the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways so they each can show their learning and understanding.

Constructivism

Oasis Charter Public School’s philosophy is based on the Constructionist Theory. Constructivist theory explains learning as a process of taking new information gained through experience and adapting existing ideas in order to construct new knowledge. The theory states that individuals are constantly learning through the processes of assimilation and accommodation. What humans learn is directly influenced by their stage of development as well as by the people, materials, and experiences they have.

A Word

From Our Director

“I am excited to be back at Oasis for my second year as the Executive Director. I taught at Oasis years ago. I am a project-based educator and Constructivist. I bring 25 years of experience in education from preschool to higher education. I have taught elementary, middle school, high school and university level students. My experience also includes being a program coordinator, department chair, and mentoring graduate students and new faculty at the university. My education includes a bachelor degree in liberal studies with a minor in science, a master degree in Education with a focus in technology and a doctorate degree in Educational Leadership and Change. I also hold many teaching certificates and credentials. I love Oasis and education. When I am not working, I spend time with my dog, hike, kayak, SCUBA, travel, snorkel, read, and my favorite is spending time with family.  I have three adult sons and four granddaughters. I’m lucky that two live in Pacific Grove and I see them often. I have another in the Central Valley and one in North Carolina, which is much too far. Feel free to stop by the office and say hello!”

What Parents are Saying

Oasis has brought peace to our family, is small enough that our kids are able to learn at their own pace.  The school teaches them dance, art, robotics, cooking and many other skills that are not offered in other schools.

Love this “little school” my daughter started there as part of their two year kindergarten program with Teacher Rhoda and she is hands down amazing! By the end of the first year of kindergarten she was proficient in all skills to move to 1st grade.

One thing that Oasis stands out from such is their focus in the whole child. They are concerned about the child feeling comfortable, competent and safe. Academics is always a concern for all educational programs but shouldn’t be the only thing to focus on.
